Abstract

538,996. Concentrating ores. THOMPSON, J. W., BOOTH, L. E., and GALIGHER CO. March 14, 1940, No. 4776. [Class 82 (ii)] A froth flotation process comprises aerating an elongated body of pulp flowing slowly longitudinally and causing the froth to flow by gravity along the pulp surface in the reverse direction to the pulp flow. The apparatus shown comprises four cells 41-44 separated by comparatively low baffles 67 and each provided with an impeller 56 and air supply 58, pulp being admitted laterally to the end cell 41 and tailings being discharged over a weir 71 at the opposite end. The degree of aeration and consequently of froth generation increases successively from the cell 41 to the cell 44, the resulting body of froth being deeper at the end 44 and therefore flowing towards the end 41 where it is discharged over a weir 51. Some of the froth may if desired be discharged laterally. Various arrangements of plant are described comprising sets of such cells for rougher concentrating, retreating, and cleaning.
