Abstract
538,606. Road-traffic signals. BIRD, J. C. Feb. 5, 1940, No. 2236. [Class 118 (ii)] A direction-indicator for use on bicycles and similar vehicles comprises a bracket 13 attached to the handle bars near one of the hand grips 15, an indicator arm 10 hinged at one end to the bracket, a spring 11 associated with the hinge and arranged normally to keep the arm in an inoperative position in general alignment with the movement of the vehicle, and a finger grip 16 in the form of a hook, eye, or the like by means of which the arm 10 can be swung into its operative position. The arm is hollow and is furnished on each side with a panel 17 illuminated by means of an electric lamp bulb 18 mounted at the pivoted end. When the arm is pulled into the operative position, the end of the bulb makes contact with a terminal 19, on the bracket 12, connected to a battery which may be placed in the arm itself.
