Abstract

538.005. Mixing-machines. SMITH. A. B.. and SMITH, C. R. May 6, 1940, No. 8068. [Class 86] In a foundry sand &c. mixer in which rotating arms pass through wedge-like pockets formed between the base of the pan and abutments carried by the wall of the pan, as in Specification 278,177, [Class 86], the abutments h are formed so that a part of the charge rides up a smooth inclined surface j, over a crest k, and down another incline m into a void caused temporarily by the passage of the rotating arm b. The abutments have concave faces n which meet the material, the opposite faces o being convex.
