Abstract

536,411. Buildings. WITHEROW, W. P. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27049. Convention date, Sept. 29, 1938. [Class 20 (iv)] Pre-cast concrete slabs 10 for floors, walls &c. are formed of channel section, the flanges 12 having openings 14 for the passage of conduits &c. 24 and shouldered ends 15 to engage supporting-beams. Figs. 2 and 3 show a floor formed of juxtaposed slabs with filler-blocks 20 between the ends of the flanges. The lower flanges of the beams 19 are covered by pre-cast shoes 21 and the joints filled with grouting 22, conduit spaces 23 being left adjacent the web of the beam. For load distribution, blocks 26 may be mortared into registering apertures in adjacent slabs. A plaster ceiling 29 is carried by metal lath 27 suspended from the slabs by means of ties 28. Figs. 5 and 6 illustrate the use of the slabs for spandrels 32, pilasters 35, and as fireproofing coverings for columns 30. Fig. 14 shows a section of the double-walled partition formed by interfitting slabs 10. As shown in Fig. 17, the roof slabs 33<SP>1</SP> and the interior of the coping sprandrel slabs 32<SP>1</SP> may be faced with sheet metal 57, 58 the upper edge of the latter being seated in slab grooves 13. The slabs are reinforced by an embedded mesh and bars 16, 17. The projecting ends of the longitudinal bars 16 may be welded to the supporting beams ; or, they may be threaded and secured by nuts bearing against lugs on the beams.
