Abstract

536,100. Facsimile receivers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., (Deakin, G.). Nov. 1 1939, No. 29147. [Class 40 (iii)] A facsimile receiver is provided with a supply roll PR of prepared paper and a feed roller FR for automatically rewinding a sheet round the receiver drum RD after the used sheet has been unwound therefrom. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the drum RD and the feed roll FR are driven from a common shaft S' through clutches of the kind described in Specification 201,256, [Class 80 (ii)]. When a record has been completed on the drum RD an electromagnet MS is automatically energized and operates the clutch driving the drum. As soon as the drum begins to rotate an insulated stud thereon closes contacts CS<SP>1</SP> to cause circuit of electromagnet MS to be held closed through contacts K<SP>1</SP>. The recorded sheet is unwound from the drum and stripped off by an arm RA. A spring SG then makes contact with the drum thereby operating a relay R which causes electromagnet MP to be energized to operate the clutch driving the feed roller FR. The fresh paper is fed through a chute PC to the drum RD whereon it is gripped by teeth SW. When the winding is completed, contacts CS<SP>11</SP> in circuit of electromagnet MC are closed by stud CS, thereby operating knife K to cut the paper and opening contacts K<SP>1</SP> in holding on circuit of electromagnet MS, causing rotation of drum RD to stop. Also, contact between spring SG and drum RD is again broken by the intervening paper, and relay R is switched off causing the drive of feed roller FR to stop. In a modification, the circuit includes contacts controlled by a stud on the feed roller FR.
