Abstract

536,012. Cellulose-pulp. CELOTEX CORPORATION. July 24, 1939, No. 21469. Convention date, April 13. [Class 2 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Soft, coarse, porous, absorbent, felt-like sheet material e.g. for roofing or flooring felt, is made with fibres obtained by de-fibrating mechanically cellulosic material at a temperature above 212‹F., such that the middle lamella of the material is markedly softened, and in an essentially gaseous environment e.g. of or including steam, chemically inert to the material. The time of such treatment may be 20 to 40 seconds. As raw material may be used southern pine, spruce, gumwood, willow, or cotton wood chips, from which resinous and volatile substances may have been removed, and which may be mixed prior to the head-box with kraft pulp, rags, or bagasse.
