Abstract

535,904. Wireless receiving sets. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and SMYTH, C. N. Oct. 24, 1939, No. 28596. [Class 40 (v)] The manual tuning shaft of a receiver is associated with an electro magnet fed with A.C. under the control of the A.V.C. circuit of the receiver so that the shaft is vibrated in dependence on signal strength, the vibration being at a maximum when the receiver is mistuned and diminishing as the receiver is brought into tune, absence of vibration thus indicating correct tuning. A spindle A rotated by a knob G drives the tuning elements through a pulley P and cord H. The spindle is mounted in bearings D permitting a small degree of vibration limited by a spring F and is provided with a thickened conical portion C serving as an armature within a coil B. Vibration is imparted to the shaft by feeding low frequency alternating current or direct current superposed with a low frequency current to the coil B which is in series with a valve the grid of which is controlled by the A.V.C. voltage.
