Abstract

535,863. Baling presses. TONGE, F. Nov. 16, 1939, No. 30174. [Class 94 (i)] Relates to a baling press of the kind in which the compression chest or box is provided with a loose bottom which, when the chest is moved into the baling-position, rides up on to a fixed base that supports it against the pressure of the ram or plunger. According to the present invention, the chest is provided with means for supporting the loose bottom during the filling period, and for depositing the bottom on a fixed base when the chest is moved into the baling position. The chest 4, Fig. 2, is mounted on wheels 5 and is provided with a door 9 for removal of the bale. Angle bars 10, situated in the lower part of the chest adjacent the side walls, are pivoted to the ends of links 11, the other ends of which are pivoted on the axles of the wheels 5 or on the side walls of the chest. The links 11 are arranged parallel with one another to enable the bars 10 to be raised and lowered. In the filling position, the bars 10 are raised and a loose bottom 12 is placed on them to support the materials in the chest. In the baling position, below the ram or plunger 8, the bars are lowered to deposit the loose bottom 12 on a fixed base 7, Fig. 3. Preferably the bars are raised and lowered automatically by arranging fixed abutments 13, 15 to engage the links 11 when the chest is moved into the filling and compressing positions. The bars 10 may be retained in their raised positions by engagement with flattened areas 17 on the ends of the links 11. After compression, the door 9 is opened and the chest moved away leaving the bale supported between the loose bottom 12 and the plunger 8.
