[Class 2 (iii)] [Also in Group V] Rubber is preserved by treating it with a product obtained by reacting a carboxylic acid with a condensation product of a ketone and a primary aromatic amine at such a temperature that water is evolved and removed from the reaction mixture. In examples, products are obtained by heating anhydrous oxalic acid with (1) a p-amino diphenyl-acetone product obtained by condensing one molecular proportion of p-aminodiphenyl with two molecular proportions of acetone, (2) the product obtained by condensing one molecular proportion of p-phenetidine with two molecular proportions of acetone, (3) 2, 2, 4-trimethyl dihydroquinoline, from aniline and acetone, or its hydrochloric acid derivative, or by heating anhydrous tartaric acid with the product obtained by condensing one molecular proportion of #-naphthyl amine with two molecular proportions of acetone, or formic acid with the product obtained by condensing one molecular proportion of benzidine with four molecular proportions of acetone. Malonic, succinic, propionic, lactic, glycollic, glutaric and acetic acids and various ketone-primary aromatic amines may be used, including acetone-pamino-diphenyl thio-ether and dibenzyl ketone-p-amino diphenyl thio-ether.
