[Class 94 (ii)] [Also in Group V] A machine for moulding and wrapping butter and like plastic materials comprises a single feeding trough feeding simultaneously under pressure two or more moulds and wrapping mechanism associated with each mould. The butter is fed from a trough having a pair of converging feed worms 6 through openings 17 into moulding chambers 5 arranged side by side. The chambers are of the type having vertical plungers 19 operating in conjunction with a removable top abutment 21 and side closure members 20 by means of cams 26, 27, 28 carried on a shaft 22 so that after compression of the butter against the top abutment 21 this latter is removed sideways and the moulded block is discharged by further movement of the plunger 19 to a sliding carriage comprising a pair of hinged jaws 59 by which the bltocks are transferred laterally to beneath the packing mechanism. The jaws slide between slide ways 69, 70 and the transverse movement is effected by hinging the jaws to a slider 61 on a rail 62 and connecting the slider through levers 61<SP>1</SP>, 62<SP>2</SP> operated by a cam 61<SP>4</SP> on the shaft 67. While in the jaws 59, the block is supplied with a wrapper 72 which is transferred from a container a Fig. 5 by means of a suction roller g co-acting with a spring pressed roller n to feed rollers o and thence by a pusher arm p to a grid 71, between which the wrapper is sucked and formed into channel shape by the aid of a suction box 74 spanning both moulds and reciprocated by means of cranks 75 to descend between the jaws 59 and pick up the wrapper. During the transverse movement of the block in the jaws the protruding edges of the wrapper are folded round the bottom of the block by means of a folderplate 70<SP>1</SP> reciprocated over the slideway 70 by means of an arm 65. The partially wrapped block is transferred by a plunger 85 to the wrapping wheel where it is held between fixed and movable jaws 84<SP>1</SP>, 84<SP>2</SP>. The wrapping wheels of known type are mounted on a common axis 45 and comprise devices 42<SP>1</SP>-42<SP>4</SP> by which the ends of the blocks are wrapped in the required manner. Perforating punches 80 descend with the box 74 on to anvils 81 to imprint lettering on the wrappers.
