The beamdefining aperture 4 may be rectangular or shaped similarly to the image, and the lamp 9 may be made opaque except for the portion 15 facing the aperture 4, or may be furnished with a reflector. Fig. 2 shows a lamp casing 2 provided with a plurality of letters &c. 6, divided from one another by converging walls 8, between which the beams pass. Fig. 4 shows a form of casing 11 adapted for suspension, rubber &c. buffers 16 serving to prevent scratching of a window 17 by the casing. Non-registering ventilation holes 12 may be provided in enclosing caps 13, 14 at the rear of the lamp 9. The stencil &c. 6 may be changeably supported on ledges 20.
