534,931. Drawing and rolling mandrels. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP WALLRAMIT HARDMETAAL MAATSCHAPPIJ. Aug. 10, 1939, No. 23115. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1938. [Class 83 (iv)] Tube drawing or other mandrels with hard metal heads have the heads connected to the mandrel rods by flexible intermediate parts so as to avoid cracks in the head caused by deflection of the rod when suddenly relieved of load upon the drawing over of the tube and to allow it to yield to irregular wall thickness or hard bodies in the tube. The head 2 may be screwed on a headed shaft 1 and soldered to a tubular member 7 and an intermediate part 3 formed with a ball end 4 lying in a recess in a sleeve 5 screwed in the mandrel rod. The ball ended part 3 may be replaced by a flexible wire cable. In a further form the cable 8 is surrounded by a spring 11, Fig. 3, so as to return the head elastically into its initial position. In another form the head may be directly secured on the flexible cable. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the mandrel may be used for rolling. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
