Abstract

534,827. Sliding doors. CRAWFORD DOOR CO. Sept. 12, 1939, No. 25658. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1938. [Class 20 (iii)] A door 10 is adapted to slide into a horizontal position above the doorway. A guide rail 15 is carried by brackets 16, 17 at the centre of the lintel 14 and extends horizontally into the building. Rollers 19, 20, carried by the door run on flanges 15a, 15b, and are carried by a link 22 pivoted at 23 on the angle beam 24 forming the top of the door. The angle beam at the bottom of the door is connected at each end by links 31 to the jambs 12. Striker plates 35 for the door are provided at the bottom of the lintels, and a spring-urged latch bolt may be provided to snap over one striker plate to lock the door in closed position. The bolt may be released manually by means of a chain. Guides may be provided on the jambs to centre the door in closed position. The outer face of the door has a groove 47 running vertically from top to bottom, to receive a cable 48 which is fixed at the bottom, and to a winding drum 50 on a shaft 51 carried by brackets 16, 52 on the lintel. The drum is actuated by a coil spring 53. When the door is in closed position, the cable 48 extends along the length of the groove 47. If the bottom of the door is pushed outwards, the spring actuates the winding drum so that the bottom swings outwards with the link 31 and the top moves inwards along the track 15. In a modification, Figs. 5-7 not shown, two doors are bolted together to form a wider door, and a guide track is provided at each side of the door. The groove for the cable 48 is formed at the junction of the doors. In a modification, Fig. 8, the door comprises horizontal sections hinged together. The hinge pins extend laterally and carry rollers 83 which run in a track having vertical and horizontal portions connected by a curved portion 89. The winding cable extends along a groove on the outside of the door as in Fig. 3.
