534,492. Hydrocarbons. FIFE, J. G. (Naamlooze Vennootschap de Bataafsche Petroleum Maatschappij,). Sept. 28, 1939, No. 26796. [Class 2 (iii)] Saturated hydrocarbons with high octane numbers are made by alkylating isoparaffins by reaction, with alkenes in the presence of catalysts comprising strong inorganic polybasic acids, and boron halides, the reaction mixture containing. at least one molecule of isoparaffin per molecule of olefine. The alkylation of isobutane with propene in the presence of boron fluoride and concentrated sulphuric or phosphoric acids is described in examples.
