Abstract

534,483. Projection screens. STABLEFORD, J. L. Aug. 31, 1939, No. 25042. [Class 97 (i)] The surface of a screen formed from one or more sheets of a reflecting metal is provided with a large number of parallel narrow furrows, and is not grained ; the furrows may be produced by a rotating wire brush, and disperse the reflected light to an extent which is greater in a direction normal to them than in a direction parallel to them. The screen may comprise sheets of smooth aluminium, may be suspended in the manner described in Specification 502,153, and may be slotted as described in Specification 468,705. The furrows may be vertical or horizontal. If the furrows are vertical, and the projection beam is not normal to the screen, it is found that, in the vertical plane, the angle between the reflected light and the screen surface is different from that between the incident light and the screen surface, and the screen may be erected in the position in which the reflected light is directed more upwardly than it would be if the screen were turned through 180 degrees. The screen may be used, in conjunction with polarized light, and with analysers used by the spectators, for displaying stereoscopic images.
