[Class 131] [Also in Group XXIII] In pressure air or vacuum driven tools, vibrators, clippers, or the like, in which an oscillating system 2 reciprocates between two outer walls 3, one or more pneumatic buffers are arranged to form a dashpot for the oscillating system. The buffers may be in the form of pistons in cylinders, but in the pressure air driven clippers. shown they comprise membranes 13 forming chambers 14 which are connected to the source of pressure air by means of channels 15, 15a. The membranes are each provided with a replaceable limiting disc 16 having a depression and a hole 17 by means of which a journal 12 on the valve spindle 4 contacts a buffer piece 18 on the cover 3. The buffer piece 18 may be made integral with the membrane, and it may be made of rubber, leather, ebonite, or the like. In one modification the channels 15, 15a, connect the chambers 14 with the opposite valve cylinders 10, 11, whilst in another a plate spring forms a back pressure valve to keep the pressure air in the chamber 14.
