Abstract

534,275. Loading stretchers into ambulances. BONALLACK, W. Aug. 30, 1939, No. 24880. [Class 108 (i)] Stretcher-loading appliances of the type in which the receiving-platform is carried by a parallel-link motion mounted in the ambulance are fitted with one stop which allows the links to pass beyond the vertical and limits the upper or inward position of the platform, a second stop which fixes the lower or loading position, a coiled tension spring opposing the downward movement of the loaded platform and a locking- device engaging one of the links to maintain the platform in its upper position. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, a platform 2 is moved on pivoted links 4, 5 from a receiving position outside the ambulance to a position inside in which it forms an upper floor or storey thus allowing a second stretcher to be placed under it. In the upper position the links 4 rest against the stop 17 while in the lowered position the links 5 rest against the rubber buffer 18a. For sitting patients, a portion of the platform 2 is hinged and adapted to fold down and form a back rest as shown at 14, Fig. 3. A compartment 27 in the base of the vehicle stores the collapsed stretchers 28 when not in use. In a modified form the links 4, 5 are unequal so that the platform 2 slopes downward in the loading position. The weight of the platform is balanced by coiled tension springs acting on the links.
