Abstract
533,828. Coke ovens; materials for making gas and coke. FISHER, A. Dec. 1, 1939, No. 31250. [Classes 55 (i) and 55 (ii)] Petroleum residues or the like are coked to yield a product with a volatile content, if required, less than one half of 1 per cent. by supplying the liquid charge through pipes 1 on to the floor 2 of an oven, heat from the sides and channelled roof 4 of which cause the distillation to commence..Gases and vapours are withdrawn through outlets 3 leading to a recovery plant until the flow of distillates begins to fail, when the outlets 3 are closed, another outlet 5 is opened, and air is admitted through openings 6 in the doors 7, to set up combustion which is maintained until the desired degree of coking is effected. The coke is discharged by a ram, and the heat stored in the oven walls is used for distilling the next charge.
