[Class 56] A method of making footed cylindrical vessels, such as measuring jars or hydrometer jars, consists in applying a mass of molten glass to one end of a length of drawn tubing and pressing the mass to form a foot. A tube 3 is inserted in a cylindrical mould 1 so that its upper end projects into a cavity 2a in the top of the mould. A core rod 6 is secured at its lower end to a sliding mould-bottom 7 which can be moved by a lever 10. The dimensions of the parts are such that the tube 3 substantially fills the space between the core 6 and the mould body. The projecting upper end of the tube is heated, and a mass of hot glass is then placed in the chamber 2a and pressed by a plunger 13 and mould ring 14 to form a foot 3a on the tube. The finished article is removed from the mould by raising the mould bottom 7 by means of the lever 10.
