Abstract
533,504. Monogrammic signs. NEOGRAPH, Ltd., and KNEPPER, F. July 5, 1939, No. 19559. [Class 118 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a switch for selectively illuminating letters &c. of a luminous sign, a series of selector bars y 1 , y 2 ... y 34 are individually operated by electromagnets m 1 , m 2 ... m 34 or pneumatic or other devices, thereby causing contacts on the bar operated to engage the transversely arranged contactor bars 1a, 2a ... 11a which are connected to the luminous tubes of the sign, each electrode of a tube being connected to a separate bar. Each selector bar carries at selected places a number of bridging pieces such as O<SP>1</SP>, O<SP>11</SP>, and when, say, the bar y 1 is actuated by the electromagnet m 1 , current enters at a conductor va, passes by a bridge O 1 to bar 1a and thence through a luminous tube connected between 1a and 5a, then through the bridging piece to conductor 7a and a tube between this and conductor 11a, thereby lighting up a particular letter. The magnets m 1 ... m 34 are energized by hand switches k 1 , k 2 ... k 34 or by a rotary switch s and the order of energization may be varied at will. In a modification, the selector bars are arranged radiating from a point and the conductors 1a ... 11a form arcs of circles. Specifications 523,042, 523,192 and 525,855 are referred to.
