Abstract
533,394. Gas turbines. MASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. Nov. 1, 1939, No. 29162. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 110 (iii)] In a gas turbine installation, in which gases are heated at constant volume, the heating is arranged to produce a temperature stratification of the gases in the containing chambers and the cooler gases are expanded in the turbine. The residual gases in the chambers, being the gases which were initially at the highest temperatures, are subsequently expelled by a pipe byepassing the turbine The temperature stratification may be secured by differential heating of the gases and the last gas to enter the chamber may be heated most. If the gases are uniformly heated, the temperature of the gas the first to be heated is raised by adiabatic compression of gas due to the heating of the following gas. In this case, the last gas to enter the chamber is the coolest and the discharge to the turbine is in contrary direction to the entry of the heated gases. The operation of the process is described, inter alia, in connection with a plant similar in arrangement to that described in Specification 530,336.
