533,359. Cleaning metals. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 2, 1939, No. 22423. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1938. [Class 82 (ii)] To remove microscopic particles of aluminium from the surfaces of rotors of dynamo-electric machines, the rotor is treated with 10-15 per cent. solution of sodium hydroxide or a solution of equivalent concentration of other alkaline materials such as sodium carbonate or potassium hydroxide or carbone at a temperature of 75-85‹C. for ten minutes and then removing the black residue formed thereon by washing with hot water, during which steam is directed on to the rotor to remove the black residue formed, followed by natural air drying.
