Abstract

533,216. Moulding concrete; moulds. WITHEROW. W. P. July 31, 1939, No. 22194. Convention date, Aug. 5, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] In making concrete articles, a concrete mix is deposited in a mould, heat is applied to drive off surplus water and the articles are vibrated or compressed to remove voids. Moulding, curing and ageing are preferably carried out in a single building 110, 111. A vehicle 115 delivers mixed concrete to gang moulds 119 which are vibrated to compact the concrete in the moulds, which are then heated by passing steam through pipes 121 in water in a tank 120, causing partial curing. The moulded articles are then subjected to vibration and compression. To effect complete curing the articles are deposited in an open bottomed box 123 over a steam-heated water tank 124. The articles are then separated from the moulds, piled in skips 126 and dipped in a tank 127 of cold water, which may contain colouring, sealing and hardening media, after which they are piled at 129 to mature. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises a plurality of moulds, Figs. 2 (Cancelled) and 7 (Cancelled), which are defined by removable pallets 40, side plates 44 of the pallet supports 43, the side and end plates 15 of the shell and the partitions 30 between the moulds. Steam for heating the concrete is supplied beneath the mould compartments After partial curing the pallet supports and pallets are raised by jacks 52, the cores 27 being allowed to move upwardly to a limited extent Thereafter the pallet supports and the moulded blocks are removed for storage during ageing As shown in Fig. 14 (Cancelled) shells 62 may be resiliently mounted on framework 63 by springs 64 to permit vibration. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
