532,915. Rotary-absorption dynamometers. HEENAN & FROUDE, Ltd., and WALKER, G. H. Sept. 26, 1939, No. 26650. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXIV] Relates to the hydraulic type in which a vaned element mounted on a rotary shaft circulates liquid to and from a similar fixed vaned element, and consists in stream-lining the parts with which the liquid comes into contact with high-velocity to minimize errosion and corro- s ion. As shown in Fig. 4, the edges b<SP>4</SP> of the vanes b<SP>3</SP> of the rotating element B<SP>2</SP> are rounded or streamlined and similarly the edges of the vanes a<SP>3</SP> of the fixed element A<SP>2</SP>. Some or all of the vanes are a3 formed with enlarged bosses a<SP>5</SP> through which water channels a<SP>2</SP> are bored. These are stream-lined smoothly into the metal as at a<SP>7</SP>, Fig. 6. The edges d<SP>1</SP> of the sluice D are also rounded on the outer side as shown. Protecting plates of a material highly resistant to corrosion are let into the material of the casing at suitable places and secured by screws. Protecting sleeves of similar material surround the rotor shaft near the boss of the rotor and adjacent to the glands through which the shaft projects.
