Abstract

532,304. Fenders. SWANBOROUGH, O. F., HARDING, F. H., and AVON INDIA RUBBER CO., Ltd. Aug. 25, 1939, No. 24552. [Class 113 (i)] Fenders comprise an outer cover enclosing one or more loops of flexible material which resiliently supports the outer cover. Various forms of the invention are described; in one the outer cover 10, Fig. 3, is separate from the inner flexible support 14. The outer cover is secured to the gunwale by battens 11, 13 and the inner support by screws 17, 18. A flexible pad may be interposed between the inner loop and the boat structure and this loop may be filled with material such as kapok. In another construction shown in Fig. 5, the outer cover and the inner loops are folded as shown out of one piece of material. Various variations on this instruction are described. The ends of the fender may be finished off square or tapered. The fender may be made of single or multi-ply rubber-material.
