Abstract

532,156. Moulds. FERRO ENGINEERING CO. Aug. 18, 1939, No. 23862. Convention date, Aug. 20, 1938. [Class 83 (i)] To avoid excessive fins, 33, Fig. 9, produced when rolling ingots 34 having a sudden change in cross section caused by the use of a hot top such as described in Specification 433,345, the refractory bottom ring 18, Fig. 1, is given an inclined inner contour 19, bosses 22 being arranged at intervals to engage the supporting wires 21 which are carried in recesses 20. If desired the ring 18, which is made in two halves, may have a flat top 50, Fig. 4, the lining blocks 13 being extended to cover the inner face of the ledge 12 which supports them. The inclined contour may also be extended to the top of the ring as shown in Fig. 4. The wiper strip 28 is also carried by the wires 21.
