[Class 97 (i)] In a magnifying device comprising lenses within a cylinder d having a projecting handle a containing a dry battery supplying a lamp e illuminating the interior of the cylinder and the object to be examined, the lens l or lenses are carried by a removable upper part g rotatable in the lower part for focusing ; the lens l may comprise an annular part of low power or of plain glass, and a central part n of higher power. The part g comprises a sleeve formed with an external thread h a knurled flange i and a lip k carrying the lens, and the cylinder d has a white flared lower part which is apertured to permit the insertion of a knife, forceps &c. while the device is in use. The lamp e is surrounded by a coloured cup-shaped screen f producing a daylight effect, and does not project Within the cylinder d.
