Abstract
531,716. Handle-bars. NORTON MOTORS, Ltd., and FRANKS, E. M. July 31,1939, No. 22118. [Class 136 (iii)] In a resilient shock-absorbing mounting for the handle-bars of motor and other cycles, the handle-bar p is mounted in a pair of substantially horizontal spaced arm k mounted on the steering head a by means of torsional rubber sleeves g bonded to inner and outer tubular bushes, d, h, of which the inner bushes d are keyed against angular movement relatively to the head a, while the outer bushes h are clamped in split lugs m on the arms k. Each inner bush d fits over a cylindrical lateral extension b of the head a, and is provided with a pressed-in rib engaging a keyway f in the extension. The outer ends of the inner bushes d project slightly beyond the rubber sleeves g for engagement by nuts j whereby the sleeves and bushes are clamped against flanges c, which are of elliptical outline with the major axis horizontal and equal to or greater than the diameter of the outer bushes, so that the rubber sleeves g are left sufficiently free for torsional movements under road shocks.
