531,344. Roofs. ASHMORE, BENSON, PEASE & CO., Ltd.. and ABISCH, O. July 19, 1939, No. 20921. [Class 20 (iv)] A roof construction of the " saw tooth type is disposed with the joists 5 mounted between a girder 4 provided on the upper ends of one set of vertical stanchions 1, 3 and a girder 6 which is disposed at a lower level than the girder 4 on brackets 7 jutting laterally from the next adjacent set of stanchions, the joists being adapted to constitute the rafters of the roof without any bracing or latticework, to enable an interrupted even ceiling 12 to be provided. The construction may be of single or multiplebay type and, if desired, the various sets of stanchions may be replaced by walls. The joists are secured to the outer ends of the brackets 7 so as to provide a space for a gutter 10. The stanchions may be braced together by girders 2 which are so disposed relatively to the brackets 7 as to provide a space 9 for the reception of shafts, steam pipes, ventilating pipes &c. The girders 4, 6 may be designed as continuous beams, thus enabling the stanchions to be spaced apart at relatively long distances.
