Abstract

531,072. Changing signs. LEWIS, T. M., and BEBB, M. H. June 26, 1939, No. 12481. [Class 3 (i)] The facia 18 of a sign is lit by light passing from a source 7 through a plurality of rotating or oscillating members 10 each having transparent or translucent flat or curved vanes 11. The members 10 are geared together by any suitable means, and may be close enough to overlap but not touch, or far enough to clear and enable their relative speeds to vary. In the latter case one member 10 may be nearer the lamp 7 than is the other, thus preventing unfiltered light from reaching the facia 18. Another form shown has three members 10 geared together in triangular formation. The vanes may be driven by any means, such as an electric motor or hot-air convection currents. The facia may be of hammered glass with a covering of plain glass to receive a painted legend &c. or to carry lettering &c. formed of solid or hollow bars of various cross-sections. The hollow bars may contain liquids.
