Abstract

530,853. Testing physical qualities of materials. AVERY, Ltd., W. & T. (Schenck Eisengiesserei und Maschinenfabrik Darmstadt Ges., C.). June 23, 1939, No. 18312. [Class 106 (ii)] In fatigue testing machines the stress transmitting springs and load or resistance (mass) are so arranged that the springs and masses sharing the oscillations are tuned against each other in such a way that the node of the oscillations of the vibrating parts is located in or near the measuring equipment adjacent the specimen. In the form shown in Fig. 3, the oscillating forces may be applied to the spring F and through the spring to the specimen P which may be coupled at one end to a dynamometer D in turn connected to or associated with a variable load or mass Mg, Mz, Mz<SP>1</SP> which is related to the calibrated spring. The measuring equipment which may be a measuring microscope mounted on the dynamometer is at or near the node and while the dynamometer is subject to the alternating stress, it is not subject to the vibrations. Other forms of the apparatus are shown diagrammatically.
