Abstract
530,777. Television. BLUE, A. H., and WOOD, R. D. March 6, 1939, No. 7233. [Class 40 (iii)] A system for colour television employs at the transmitter a beam of white light A dispersed by means of a prism D to obtain three colour bands E, F, G, which fall on photo-electric cells H, I, J, so that the outputs of these cells vary in accordance with the colour of a particular element of the subject. The outputs of the cells are transmitted to the receiver where they are applied to individual pairs of parallel plates N, O, P so as to produce corresponding charges thereon. These charged plates are said to deviate three colour bands Q, R, S, received from a source of white light T through a dispersing prism V and a polarizing crystal X. According to the amount of deviation of any particular beam more or less of that colour is allowed to pass through a corresponding aperture W so that a beam reconstituted at a point Y will have the colour of the subject transmitted. The means for scanning at the transmitter and the optical system described above are enclosed in a single container, Fig. 2 (not shown). In the receiver the white light source, optical system for producing colour, focusing means and scanning means comprising electrically charged plates similar to those used for deviating the colour bands are enclosed in a glass container the end face of which is used as a screen.
