Abstract
530,424. Printing processes. INTERCHEMICAL CORPORATION. June 23, 1939, No. 18346. Convention date, July 2, 1938. Addition to 462,924. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group IV] In the process according to the parent Specification for rapidly setting a printing-ink, the binder is an alcohol-insoluble substance, the solvent is a petroleum hydrocarbon, and the diluent a water-miscible lower aliphatic alcohol which, while not miscible with petroleum hydrocarbons, will remove them when used in at least the proportion of 5 to 1; ethyl and isopropyl alcohols, mixed if desired with not more than 10 per cent. of water, are stated to be the most suitable. Suitable binders are esterified or masticated copals, ester gum, modified phenolformaldehyde resins, modified alkyd resins, coumarone-indene resins, polymers of vinyl acetate and chloride, acrylate polymers, sulphonamide resins, chlorinated diphenyl resins and polymerized petroleum hydrocarbon resins. The solvents may contain more powerful solvents such as diethylene glycol butyl ether acetate, in which case an alcohol-insoluble cellulose derivative such as nitrocellulose may be employed ; in addition, alcohol-insoluble plasticizers such as fatty oils may be added. Three specific examples are given. Specification 468,233 is referred to.
