Abstract
530,331. Maps; photographic processes. AERO SURVEY CORPORATION. June 10, 1939, No. 17103. Convention date, June 17, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 146, (ii)] [Also in Group XX] A relief map is prepared from a block of carvable material formed of a number of layers of contrasting colours spaced according to contours. Thin layers of a darker material may be inserted between layers of the main material of the block, and similar vertical lines may be inserted to indicate lines of latitude &c. The block is placed beneath a pair of projection cameras and aerial photographs of the terrain are projected thereon, the block being then carved until the two images coincide. The surface is then coated with a waterproof material and conventional signs such as roads &c. are drawn thereon. This can be photographed and the photograph projected on to a duplicate carved block formed preferably of an opaque white material and covered with a sensitized photographic emulsion, or on to a flat surface to form an ordinary contour map.
