Abstract

529,801. Safety razors. DAVIES, W. J. June 8, 1939, Nos. 16771/39,29135/39 and 7303/40. [Class 30] A safety-razor blade is secured by a fastening against the concave face of a cover provided with a pair of spaced pegs and a longitudinal slot so that the cutting edge projects into the slot, the inner edge of the slot bearing against the blade and the outer edge forming a guard, the fastening engaging the pegs transversely. The cover may have two slots for a double-edged blade. In one form, Fig. 1, the cover 1 is extended to form a bracket 3 secured to or integral with a handle 2. The cover has pegs 4 which align the blade 7 and are apertured to receive a cotter pin 8 which is tapered at one end and formed with a knob at the other end. The cotter may be integral with the handle which is then separate from the cover but has a projection 141, Fig. 9, entering a notch in the end of the cover to lock the cover. When unlocked, the cover may rotate on the cotter for cleaning or packing. The handle may be formed from wire into an open loop or into a helical formation with intermediate coils 1411 wider than the end coils 14<SP>111</SP> to impart resilence to the handle. An eye 15 may be formed for suspension of the razor. In a modification Fig. 13, the handle consists of a wire 16 bent into U-shape with spaced arms 161 provided with sockets for pivot pins 17 secured to the cover. Cam projections 18 provide a recess at each end to secure the handle in shaving position. The first Provisional Specification states that the cotter may be wedge shaped to engage wedge slots in the pegs or U-shaped to engage notches in opposite sides of the pegs. The degree of flexure of the blade may be varied by using cotters of different size or by inserting packing pieces between the blade or cotter, these packings being apertured to fit over the pegs. The cover may be composed of united longitudinal and transverse bars, either set carrying the pegs. The cotter may also be used to secure the parts of a razor with usual cover and guard plates. The outer face of the cover may exhibit a plurality of facets.
