[Class 120 (ii)] Two yarns, or a multiple of two, are twisted together while each receives no individual twist, by causing an outer yarn or yarns to rotate and balloon about an inner yarn or yarns, the supply packages for the inner yarn being situated inside the balloon formed by the outer yarn and both of the yarns being caused to travel over and with a rotary device and through the centre thereof to the take-up device. As shown the supply spool 11 for the inner yarn 12 is carried by a weighted bracket 9 carried by a bearing 7 floating on the hollow driven spindle 1 carrying a disc flyer 5 to which the outer yarn 13 is led from a supply spool 14. The yarn 13 in its passage to the hollow spindle passes over the flange of the disc and through an aperture 6 therein while the yarn 12 passes through the part of the spindle supporting the floating bearing .7 before passing over the flange of the disc to the hollow spindle where it is twisted symmetrically with the yarn 13. The weight 8 which maintains the bracket 9 stationary may be replaced by magnetic, gaseous or fluid pressure means, and the flyer 5 may be in the form of a cone, cylinder or spider; the axis of the mechanism could be inclined to the horizontal. A drop wire 25 suspended from each yarn and from the composite yarn 20 is connected electrically or mechanically with starting and stopping mechanism, the drop wire in the inner yarn 12 being arranged to break the yarn 13 to stop the mechanism.
