Abstract

529,528. Sparking plugs. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. June 2, 1939, No. 16256. Convention date, June 6, 1938. Addition to 500,148. [Class 7 (iv)] An outwardly concave washer 16 retaining the insulator 14 is held under stress by an externally threaded sleeve 17, preferably tapered, engaging the outer end of the plug casing. Further tightening may be effected by end pressure deforming the heated reduced portion 19 of the wall of the casing. An insulating lining 22 of a metallic screen 20 extends within the sleeve 17. The insulated terminal 10 projects within a circular central opening in a bridgepiece 29 secured to the end of the casing. For facilitating adjustment of the spark-gap slits extend along the bridgepiece in each direction from the central opening. In a modification the plug is not electrically screened ; a cap of insulating material screws into the outer end of the casing and supports the binding post for the supply conductor.
