[Class 4] An aeroplane is constructed or fitted with deflecting plates or armour A capable of deflecting bullets &c. the plates being arranged at an angle, for example along the body or fuselage, as shown, to present ridges in horizontal and vertical planes. The windows C, D of the pilot's cockpit may serve also as bullet deflectors. The plates may be separate sheets of light armour or they may be united in pairs to form an angle B and two such pairs joined together in the vertical or horizontal plane, or channel section plating may be used. The plating may present more or fewer angles than the four shown.
