Abstract

529,344. Delivery apparatus. HARRIS - SEYBOLD - POTTER CO. May 30, 1939, No. 15893. Convention date, June 7, 1938. [Class 100 (i)] In connection with an endless gripper chain conveyer for delivering sheets from printing &c. machines the effect of centrifugal force on the gripper unit is counteracted by means of chainguide shoes 54 arranged at each side of the machine in register with the chains 18 and sprockets 19. The gripper pads 28 are supported by bars 23, and the grippers 29 by shafts 24 mounted in carriers which are received for the sheet-transfer position by gaps in discs 22 supported by the shaft 21 of the sprockets which is driven from the printing-press. The shaft 24 is normally closed under spring action and is rotated by a fixed cam 50, Fig. 5, to open the grippers to receive a sheet from the impression cylinder 10. To prevent radial vibrations of the gripper members during sheet transfer a cam 36, which is adjustable radially of the shaft 21 by screws-and-bolts, engages a roller 47 and holds the middle part of the gripper unit of the conveyer to a circular path, and prevents vibration of the gripper due to bowing of the carrier. The cams 50, 36 are supported by brackets 51, 34 freely mounted on the shaft 21 but each anchored against rotary movement by a cross rod 35. Two sets of cams 36 on opposite sides of the centre of the conveyer may be employed.
