Abstract

529,063. Slicing-machines. BERKEL & PARNALL'S SLICING MACHINE MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd. (Maatschappij van Berkel's Patent N.V.). May 16, 1939, No. 14562. [Class 28 (ii)] In a slicing-machine, the slice-discharging fly of the stacking-mechanism is detachable by a simple manipulation, not involving the use of a tool, from its operating means and is thus rendered removable from its pivot. The sliceconveyer, also, is detachable, without the use of a tool, from its operating means and thus removable from the machine. As shown, the conveyer 7 consists of superposed arcuate members having slice-engaging prongs 7a and rigidly interconnected by side columns 7b. The conveyer has a hand knob 10 for its head and a plate 11 for its base, the head being freely journalled on the fixed post 8. The plate 11 rests on a rotatable seat 12 secured to a pinion 13 which meshes with a rack reciprocable with the usual carriage. The seat 12 is journalled on a bush 14, secured to the bracket 15, and has two positioning pins 17, 18 which engage holes in the base 11. A recess 21 in the base 11 is registrable, in one position only of the conveyer, with a pin 22 projecting radially from the post 8, the pin extending through a slot 23 in the bush 14. Thus when the conveyer is turned to register the recess 21 with the pin 22, the conveyer may be removed from the post 8 by a simple lifting movement. The post 8 is removably secured to the bracket 15 by a hand-turnable nut 24, the pin 22 engaging the recess 23 to position the post. The fly 9 is operable under the control of a pull-rod 25 against the action of a spring 26. The pull-rod is operated as described in Specification 513,144, and has a pin or roller 28 which engages an open slot 29 in a lug 30 on the fly so that the rod 25 can be disengaged from the fly as shown in Fig. 2. The spring 26 is anchored at one end and secured at the other end to a stirrup 31 freely rotatable on the pivot shaft 27. The stirrup is formed with an inclined face 31a which when the fly is pulled back by the rod 25, is engaged, in wedge manner, with a correspondingly inclined face 32a on a projection 32 on the fly. The wedge action maintains the fly on the shaft 27. To detach the fly, the rod 25 is disengaged therefrom and the fly is swung on the pivot shaft until arrested by a stop 33. The projection 32 is then clear of the stirrup so that the fly may be withdrawn from the shaft. When the parts 7, 8, 9 have been removed, the shock-absorber, associated with the fly-operating mechanism, maintains the cam follower clear of the cam so that the pull rod 25 remains motionless if the machine is used without the stacker.
