Abstract

529,016. Burial vaults. SHIPPEN, T. A. May 19, 1939, No. 14998. [Class 20 (i)] A burial vault comprises preformer sectional units including a bottomless wall lining for a grave and a cover, each formed in one or more sections, the upper edge of the lining being adapted to support superposed linings with the cover of each lower unit forming the base for the superposed unit, and so arranged that the lower covers may be removed through the superposed units without disturbing them. The lining shell 2 is formed as a single unit in concrete, metal, or other material, or may be formed of preformed sections 3, 4 bolted together or having removable interfitting connections. When formed of concrete, they are provided with metal reinforcement and with stiffening ribs 7. The cover 10, which is also preformed in one or more sections, rests on a ledge 13 provided' internally of the shell lining, and lower covers can thus be removed through the superposed shell linings.
