Abstract

528,560. Centrifugal dust extractors. PFEFFER, H. W., and DANZ, H. O. Oct. 5, 1939, No. 27278. [Class 23] Dust is separated from gases in a primary separator containing a number of units, each of which comprises a vertical tube 3 with an annular axial entry provided with helical vanes 5 to cause the gas stream to rotate. The dust which is thrown to the wall by centrifugal force is withdrawn through the annular space 7 between the skirt 6 and the wall of the tube to the hopper 8, while the clean gas passes through the tube 21 and the tubes 22 to the space 23 from which it passes to the discharge pipe 24. The dust with a small portion of the gas passes from the hoppers 8 to the large collector 10. It is then conveyed by the pipe 11 to the separator 14 where it is subject to further treatment; the separated dust drops to the container 17 while the clean gas travels by the pipes 18, 20 to the inlet header 2 of the primary separator. A fan 19 between the pipes 18, 20 maintains the circulatory flow. In a modification the lower part of the separator is formed by a venturi tube 25 forming an annular gap 27 with the clean gas outlet tube 28. The dust is discharged through the gap 27 and passes to the second separator.
