Abstract
528,001. Liquid fuel burning apparatus. MARMOREK, H. V. April 25, 1939, No. 12452. [Classes 75 (i) and 75 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] An oil burning plant comprises a fuel reservoir 22 supplied with compressed air through a pipe 25 and connected by pipes 10, 19 opening into the reservoir 22 above and below the fuel level respectively to the coaxial air and fuel nozzles, 8, 11 of the burner 4. The fuel nozzle 11 is fitted with an adjustable needle valve 16. A central member 20 threaded on the near end of the air nozzle 8 engages a thrust collar 21 on the fuel nozzle 11 and displaces the fuel nozzle to regulate the air discharge orifice. The fuel nozzle is formed with a slot 15 engaging a guide pin 14. The burner is fixed in a tube 5 opening into the furnace and formed with an ignition port 7A. The pressure in the reservoir 22 may be controlled by varying the speed of the electric motor 37 driving the air pump by a throttle valve in the pipe 25, or by an escape valve 41 on the reservoir. The valve 41 is preferably of the balanced type and may be thermostatically controlled. The air pump is preferably of the diaphragm type and may be operated by a vertically-guided rod 38 connected by a rod 34A to a crank 35 on the motor. Alternatively the rubber diaphragm 29, Fig. 3, may be moved relatively to a fixed plate 26 carrying a delivery valve 27 and a suction valve 28 by a pivoted lever 32 connected by a rod 34 to the crank 35. A rigid plate 36 supports the diaphragm at the end of the compression stroke.
