Abstract

527,992. Crystallizing sugar. WERKSPOOR N. V. April 25, 1939, No. 12412. Convention date, May 9, 1938. [Class 32] A process for continuously crystallizing sugar solutions consists in passing the liquor in a homogeneous stream through a boiling apparatus divided into chambers, the ratio of the weight of the crystals to the quantity of mother liquor and the degree of supersaturation of the liquor being regulated in each chamber. The saturated solution is supplied by a conduit 2 to a vessel 1 via a cock 3. The pipe continues and has cocks 14 by which sugar solution may be admitted into chambers of the vessel 1 formed by the partitions 5, as required. The crystals first form in the chamber a. In the next chamber b, the crystallization ceases by adding more sugar solution. The solution is again concentrated in chamber c, by application of heat, and crystals again appear. The heat is applied or cut off by the aid of steam pipes. The crystallization and concentrating processes are followed through the chambers d, c, f, g, h, i. Specification 378,341 is referred to.
