Abstract

527,922. Artificial leather. DURAND, G. H. VULLIET-, April 13, 1939, No. 11202. Convention date, April 13, 1938. [Class 96] Imitation skin or leather is made by adding to vegetable or animal fibrous pulp, e.g., straw or cotton, one or more metal salts of organic fatty acids, e.g., aluminium, magnesium, zinc or bismuth salts of capric, caproic, caprylic, erucic, lauric, linoleic, linolenic, myristic, oenanthic, oleic, palmitic, pelargonic, ricinoleic, ricinic, stearic, tridecyclic, undecyclic, with or without a colloid, mucilage, rubber &c. and sheeting on a paper or cardboard-making machine. The product may be painted, coated, impregnated, coloured, varnished, grained &c. The metal salt of the fatty acid may be precipitated on the fibre by double decomposition, e.g., using the sulphate, acetate, chloride &c. of zinc &c. with an alkaline stearate &c. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 440,026.
