Abstract
527.069. Cutting &c. machines. FREEMAN CO., L. G. March 30,1939, No. 10003. Convention date, April 5, 1938. [Classes 31 (i) and 31 (ii)] In machines of the kind described in U.S.A. Specifications 2.084,355 and Reissue 20294 for cutting and marking shoe blanks, the backing paper is fed by means operated independently of the plunger mechanism and an inking device is provided for the marking portions of the die having an adjustable roller and an ink supply, the operation of the'plunger and the feed of the backing paper being effected through electromagnetic clutches. The machine comprises a work-supporting plunger 12, Fig. 2, reciprocated vertically as in the Specifications referred to and a die-holder 13 moving horizontally in guides 14 to and from its operative position over the work support. The driving-mechanism for the feed rolls comprises a tube 25 mounted in a bearing 28 in which it can rock and slide, and extending into a clutch housing 26.. A shaft 32 enclosed in the tube 25 is driven by a pulley and drives a shaft 37 through an electromagnetic clutch 36, the shaft 37 driving the feed roll shaft 45 through a worm. The feed rolls 46, 47, Fig. 3, the nip of which can be varied by springs 53, are carried by brackets 49 rigid with the plunger 12 and provided with arms 51 carrying an idler 57. The feed is controlled by the energizing of the clutch which is effected by a buss bar 59 pivoted to the main frame and co-operating with a contact 64 on the die carriage, the duration of contact being varied by adjusting the buss bar. The inking device comprises a roll 73 adjustably and removably mounted in brackets and an inking pad or trough having a spring projecting into the oath of the plunger whereby each stroke of the latter brings the pad into contact with the roll 73. The roll is rotated by a belt 91 secured to a pin 92 on the die carriage and passing over fixed pulleys. The die carriage is driven through an electromagnetic clutch the energizing of which is effected on the operation of a treadle. The clutch operates a shaft 137 driving a shaft 139 carrying a crank 140 connected to the die carriage by a pitman.
