Abstract

526,952. Preserving fruit, eggs, &c. ROMWALTER, A., KIRALY, S., and RACZ, M. March 21, 1939, No. 8996. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1938. [Class 49] For maintaining the freshness and vitality of fruits, vegetables, greens and eggs, i.e. organic goods which can be regarded as masses of or containing living entities having slow metabolism, the goods are each dipped as a whole into an aqueous solution of alkali metal or alkaline earth metal hypochlorite and thereupon are stored or transported in heaps which are ventilated by air which is moist or has been artificially moistened. The solution should preferably contain less than one part by weight of hypochloride per thousand. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the treatment of meal and hides ; it also refers to the preservation of vegetable juices and pulps, and liquids, beverages or pastes containing organic substances, such as milk, beer and milk products, by admixing therewith hypochlorite solution and then closing the receptacle. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
