Abstract

526,925. Vacuum cleaners. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., STENT, T. F., and BOCOCK. W. A. March 29, 1939, No. 9826. [Class 8 (i)] The casing of a vacuum cleaner comprises a. fore part 1 and a separate rear part with open front and bottom, secured thereto by screws &c., clamping between them a partition plate 8 which supports the motor 10 and fan 15 and forms the rear closure of the fan chamber. The motor is also supported by a plate 12 on a castor 13, while the fore part of the casing is supported by floor wheels mounted on a pivoted frame adjustable by a screw 22. The sides 24 of the handle bail are pivoted within the rear part of the casing, projecting through slots in the top, and a pedal actuated spring catch 26 holds the handle in position. If the casing is of metal, the motor may be protected by a plate of metal or insulating material secured in the bottom of the rear portion, and insulated from the front and rear casing portions. Radio interference may be suppressed by a condenser unit, and choke coils may also be provided.
