Abstract
526,910. Thermometers. NEGRETTI, H. N., NEGRETTI, P. E., and IBBOTT, H. W. March 28, 1939, No. 9699. [Class 97 (iii)] In a temperature indicating instrument of the Bourdon tube type having a capillary device through which the tube is influenced and wherein the capacity of the tube is large relative to the capacity of the capillary device, the pointer is coupled to the tube at a point between the fixed and free ends of the tube thus avoiding an increase in the pointer movement and avoiding any appreciable increase in the size of the instrument whilst at the same time accommodating the maximum expansion of the bulb contents. As shown, the Bourdon tube 5 has three coils and its fixed end 4 is connected to the bulb (not shown) through a tube 3, capillary device 2 and pipe 1. The free end of the tube is connected to a member 20 pivoted about an axis 21. The movement of the Bourdon tube is communicated to the indicating pointer 6 from a point 8 in the outer coil, by means of a bimetallic strip 22 and disc 11. A large movement of the pointer is thus avoided. The end 12 of the pointer is cranked to move over an arcuate scale.
