Abstract
526,671. Valves. SCHURTER, W. Dec. 22, 1938, No. 37356. [Class 135] Automatic non-return valves for air compressors &c. have the closure members so arranged that when open a convergent-divergent passage is formed in which the low pressure at the throat acts on the rear side of the element whilst the divergent part of the passage has such a rate of taper and is of such length that at the exit opening of the valve the greater part of the pressure dropped in the convergent part of the passage is recovered. As shown in Fig. 2, adjacent flaps 8 are formed from a single strip so that no packing is required at the anchorage where they are gripped between holders 2 and end bars 11 by set-screws inserted in holes 4. In a modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), the carrier 6 is in the form of a ring, the flow through the valve being radially inwards. In a further modification, Fig. 6, the holders are dispersed with and the tops of the flaps 15, 16 which are supported as they bend to the closed position by shorter flaps 17, 18, seat upon the welded pressed sheet metal body portions 20, 21.
